Rob Fairmichael

Born in Dublin in 1953, Rob’s home town was Birr in Co Offaly but he has lived in Belfast since 1975. He wears a number of different hats in life - all at the same time (with different part-time work). Prior to joining CCWA to work for the Community Faiths’ Forum he spent 17 years in the Inter-Church Centre in Belfast working in a variety of areas including funding (of community groups), social and community issues, racism, and international affairs. He is also coordinator of INNATE, a nonviolence network in Ireland, doing a broad range of work including editing their monthly newsletter, Nonviolent News, and involvement in training and projects. He is an associate of Mediation Northern Ireland. On leaving school he studied politics and sociology in Trinity College Dublin - which qualified him to subsequently understand why he was unemployed.
Rob is married to Carmel and they have four grown-up sons. They live in Ballynafeigh, Belfast in an old house (c.1860) with a history. Rob enjoys a variety of activities, most notably bog wood carving, cycling, and baking appalling puns (sic), though he also likes cooking, loud music while cooking, and films, both silly and serious.
